PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
